11th Std CBSE CHEMISTRY

Jessi · April 12, 2025

Class XI Chemistry introduces the foundational principles of chemistry that explain the nature of matter, its composition, behavior, and transformations. The syllabus blends theoretical understanding with practical applications in three main branches: Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry.

Students begin with basic concepts such as the mole concept and stoichiometry, move on to the structure of atoms, and understand how elements are classified through the periodic table. They learn how atoms bond to form molecules and how matter exists in different states like gases and liquids.

The course dives into thermodynamics, exploring energy changes during reactions, followed by chemical and ionic equilibrium, and redox reactions that involve transfer of electrons. The unique nature of hydrogen and its compounds is discussed.

In inorganic chemistry, students study the properties and reactions of s-block (Group 1 & 2) and p-block elements (Groups 13 & 14), laying the groundwork for advanced topics in Class XII.

Organic chemistry begins with fundamentals like nomenclature, types of organic reactions, and methods of purification. This leads to a deeper look at hydrocarbons — alkanes, alkenes, alkynes, and aromatic compounds.
